The construction of 97 key projects is being accelerated in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ), Dazhong Daily reported.
They include 13 provincial and municipal-level key projects, with a total investment of about 63.4 billion yuan ($9.15 billion), and cover new materials, intelligent manufacturing, integrated circuits, shipping, finance and trade and other fields.
Among them, the Haier Water Ecological Green Intelligent Manufacturing Base, Qingdao's key project, has a total investment of about 3 billion yuan. It plans to build an industry-leading intelligent production line for aquatic ecological products, develop a number of technological breakthroughs such as information interconnection, intelligent manufacturing and low consumption and energy saving, and build a global intelligent "lighthouse factory".
"The project is expected to be completed in October and its trial operations will be carried out in April next year," said the project manager Wang Liang. "It is expected to produce 5 million water heaters per year and hire 1,500 employees, which is of great significance to further optimize the industrial layout and stimulate the local economy."
The construction of Qingdao BGI Genomics' genetic testing reagents and genetic testing service project is also in full swing. The project covers an area of 57,000 sq m and has a total construction area of about 210,000 square meters. It aims to build a world-class genetic test kit production base and service center and DNA synthesis base.
"We have worked hard to ensure quality and safety, and we expect to complete the entire structural capping by mid-August," said project director Liu Qian. According to Liu, it will become a benchmark in the field of genetic testing and biomedicine in Qingdao and give a boost to the city's gene technology industry after the completion of the project.
"The total number of construction workers on the job has reached more than 12,000, exceeding last year's peak. These key projects will bring a great deal of help to Qingdao FTZ's industrial chain extension and industrial transformation and upgrading, and we will fully support and promote their construction," said Du Qingxue, director of Qingdao FTZ's planning and construction department.
