Shandong CPC congress report highlights Qingdao WCNA's developmental role

Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA)'s role was highlighted in the report delivered during the 12th Shandong Provincial Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which opened in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, on May 28.

In a review of major historic achievements over the past five years, the report mentioned that the construction of Qingdao WCNA has achieved remarkable results.

In 2021, Qingdao WCNA's GDP increased by 10.3 percent year-on-year to 436.85 billion yuan ($68.88 billion), and accounted for 30.9 percent of Qingdao city's total, making it the first area in Qingdao to surpass the 400 billion yuan mark. The figure also put Qingdao WCNA among the top three of the 19 State-level new areas, first among 137 counties and districts in Shandong province and fourth among the top 100 districts in China.

The report also serves as a blueprint for Shandong's development in the next five years with a focus on the marine economy, which is a major sector in Qingdao WCNA. The area's gross marine product registered an average annual growth of 14.1 percent, accounting for 40 percent of Qingdao city's total.

Shandong Pilot Free Trade Zone is also a keyword in the report. As the largest part of the Shandong Pilot Free Trade Zone, Shandong Pilot Free Trade Zone Qingdao Area, which is located in Qingdao WCNA, has won the honor as one of the top 10 parks in China in terms of having the strongest investment value.

The report also lauded the great influence of the Global Health Forum of Boao Forum for Asia and the Qingdao Multinationals Summit, which were held in Qingdao WCNA.

According to the report, in the next five years, efforts will be made to develop a number of new high-quality cultural and creative industrial parks, including Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis.

Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis, one of the largest film studio complexes in the world, is also located in Qingdao WCNA. Over the past five years, more than 200 high-quality film and television works have been shot there.
