The Shandong University of Technology (SDUT) was jointly founded by the State Administration of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defense and the Shandong Provincial Government in 1956.
The university hosts 27 colleges and 20 university research institutes, with 70 majors for bachelor degrees, including science and engineering, management, literature, law, art, history, and pedagogy. It also has three postdoctoral research stations, four doctoral degree programs for first-rank disciplines, 23 master's degree programs for first-rank disciplines, and 14 authorized master's degree specialties. SDU currently has 34,000 full-time undergraduate students and over 3,700 graduate students.
SDUT boasts an outstanding environment, laboratories, and research centers. The university has a combined floor area of 2.4 million square meters and boasts high-quality teaching facilities. It has a library with a collection of 3.37 million volumes, and 7.82 million e-books and periodicals (dissertations included).
The university has always attached great importance to cultivating students with innovative spirits, specialized knowledge, practical abilities, and physical and mental health. The university's teaching and research equipment is worth a total of 589 million yuan ($91.5 million).
It is home to a number of state-level research institutes, including two national-level virtual teaching centers for simulation experiments, four national-level education centers for engineering practice, one sub-laboratory of a national key laboratory, three national engineering and technology research centers (sub-centers included), two engineering research centers sponsored jointly by the central and local governments, one engineering research center sponsored by the Ministry of Education, 21 laboratories sponsored by the central and local governments, and one key national vocational education teacher training center. SDTU also has three provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and 20 provincial-level key discipline experimental teaching centers.
The university has been strengthening its international cooperation in recent years, and has established cooperative relationships with 105 universities, colleges, and scientific research institutions in 29 countries around the world, including the United States, Britain, South Korea, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2019, there were over 1,000 foreign students studying at the university.

By giving priority to talent, its students' growth, the cultivation of basic research abilities, and collaboration with local governments and industries, SDUT hopes to become a high-quality teaching and research-oriented university in China.
