Shi Qianping is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of DMI Industrial GROUP Co Ltd – located in Jinan city in East China's Shandong province.

As such, he's recently observed that an increasing number of domestic companies are planning overseas developments under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. However, due to insufficient understanding of local conditions and difficulties in information exchanges, they face many common problems and challenges, Shi noted.

As the supervisor of the China Federation of Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs, Shi has long been concerned about how to better assist domestic companies in establishing communications and cooperation mechanisms with overseas Chinese.

In his view, domestic companies need to learn how to venture abroad, preferably by paying more attention to both the upstream and downstream of the industrial supply chain.

"I will continue to leverage the advantages of the overseas Chinese community to enable more foreigners to understand China, help Chinese companies integrate into local development and become promoters of exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations," Shi said.

One of his proposals during the ongoing China's annual two sessions has been to encourage companies to participate in co-building social service projects and charity activities in the BRI countries.

Since becoming a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Shi has submitted four proposals on issues such as boosting confidence in the private economy, promoting the integration of industry and education and people-to-people connectivity under the BRI.

In 2023, he submitted more than 40 pieces of advice and public opinions, with 26 of them directly adopted.

"At this year's two sessions, I will focus on proposals in areas such as high-quality development, co-building the BRI and promoting economic development in private sector," Shi said.

He added that he would deepen consultations as his primary duty, bear in mind the overall interests of the country, closely follow the concerns of the people and provide truthful, practical and constructive suggestions to further enhance the effectiveness of his advisory role.
