A Chinese lass doing a master's degree in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano – Italy's biggest technical university – is making waves on the streets of the city of Milan with fine performances of the erhu, the traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument, aiming to promote her country's traditional culture.

Since April 2023, Zheng Xiaohui, who comes from Weifang city in East China's Shandong province, has been charming passersby with her renditions, drawing crowds and bridging the cultural divide between China and Italy.

Zheng embarked on her studies in Milan in 2021. It was there that she became inspired by the thriving street art culture, especially after witnessing a captivating violin performance that left a lasting impression on her.

After overcoming various obstacles, Zheng secured a coveted spot along the Milan Canal for her street performances in 2023.

Her efforts drew numerous spectators, with some even joining in to experience playing the erhu themselves, creating an engaging and interactive experience for all involved.

Her performances have not only enchanted audiences in Milan but have also garnered attention on various social media platforms worldwide, offering a glimpse into the beauty and allure of traditional Chinese music.
