Meigui town, also known as Rose town, in Pingyin county, Jinan, Shandong province was recently shortlisted among the first batch of towns featuring cultural tourism resources by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

The town in southwest Pingyin county has been planting roses for more than 1,300 years and has a plantation area measuring more than 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares). The town focuses on developing tourism and healthcare industries which helps with the high-quality development of the county's tourism industry.

The town will highlight the nourishing function of roses for women as it aims to develop itself into the first female-friendly tourist destination in China, according to Wu Jili, deputy director of the Pingyin county culture and tourism bureau.

The 2021 Pingyin Rose Culture Festival will open on May 7 with a series of events designed for women.
