Invited by the China Public Diplomacy Association, a group of Guyanese journalists recently embarked on an enriching and captivating journey to Yantai, East China's Shandong province.
They explored landmarks such as Yantai Mountain, Chaoyang Street, and Penglai Pavilion, and visited Yantai enterprises including CIMC Raffles, Changyu Group, and Eddie Precision, experiencing the development prowess and diverse allure of this picturesque coastal city.
During their visit to CIMC Raffles, a Kaieteur News reporter expressed excitement upon experiencing an offshore oil drilling platform up close for the first time. "Our country currently holds approximately 11 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, with many more awaiting development in offshore areas. There is also active exploration underway, and I believe there is substantial room for cooperation in this area with China," she said.

Subsequent visits to the Changyu Industrial Park and Chateau Tinlot opened new horizons for the media delegation. Samuel Suknandan, a senior journalist from Guyana National Television, expressed his astonishment, initially expecting Yantai to be primarily focused on agriculture. Upon visiting, he discovered Yantai's diversified economic landscape.
The Cooperative Republic of Guyana, situated in northern South America, stands as the sole English-speaking country on the continent. Nestled on the northeast Atlantic coast, the nation boasts abundant mineral and forest resources, yielding oil, gold, and bauxite.
In June 2022, Yantai and Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, signed an agreement to establish friendly cooperation. The visit of the Guyanese media delegation to Yantai will significantly enhance mutual understanding and expedite the progression of fostering sister-city relationships.
