On June 19, the coastal city of Yantai in East China's Shandong province established friendly cooperative relations with Gijon, Spain, expanding Yantai's international friendship network to include 52 cities in 26 countries.

Gijon, located in northern Spain, covers an area of 181.7 square kilometers and has a population of 273,400. As a renowned industrial and technological city on the coast of Spain and a center for the steel industry, Gijon is actively developing industries such as new energy, biopharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, artificial intelligence, food processing, chemicals and new materials.

Gijon and Yantai share many similarities as coastal industrial cities with rich cultural heritages, thriving industries, and excellent ecological environments. With strong industrial complementarity between the two cities, there is enormous potential for future collaboration.
