On May 9, Yantai in East China's Shandong province held an unveiling ceremony for the Nishan House established in Chios, Greece, marking a new chapter in cultural exchange between the two cities.
During the event, Gong Haitao, deputy director in charge of daily work at the Publicity Department of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee, showcased Yantai's picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and thriving economy. He presented the Chios municipal government with biographies, magazines, and brochures related to Yantai, as well as Chinese calligraphy, paintings, and paper-cutting works.
Gong then extended an invitation to the leadership of Chios to attend the 2024 Local Leaders' Meeting of China-CEEC scheduled to run from Oct 15 to 17 in Yantai. He also awarded Greek youth with certificates of honor from the 2023 Global Youth Conference's International Youth Photography Exhibition.
Yantai established sister-city relations with Chios, the hometown of the ancient Greek poet Homer, on May 19, 2021. That same month, the "Yantai-Chios Sister-city Exchange Week" took place in Yantai.
Yantai has set up Nishan Houses in sister cities including Rostov-on-Don in Russia, Kunsan in South Korea, and Zrenjanin in Serbia. This initiative has played a significant role in promoting Shandong culture globally and enhancing the international reputation of Yantai.
