Yantai in East China's Shandong province has hastened the construction of green transport infrastructure and carried out green upgrades and renovations of needed facilities in recent years, with its transport becoming greener and smarter.
The city has built a greenway network with a total length of 243 kilometers, and a 56-km slow travel system, enriching transport for local residents and offering them various choices to spend their leisure time.
Yantai has also launched a range of projects to speed up the construction of charging facilities for electric vehicles. Official data indicates that as of July this year, the city had installed a total of 8,087 charging stations and eight natural gas stations across the city. Three bus terminals have applied new management models featuring photovoltaic power and intelligent charging piles, which have outlined a future path for Yantai to develop clean energy and green transport.
Efforts have also been made to continuously improve the bus lane system, with 206 km of public transportation lane having been built, providing a convenient and green public transportation network for the public. More people are choosing to commute by bus during the morning rush hour, which not only helps them save commuting time and costs, but protects the environment and reduces emissions.
Empowered by technology, Yantai has made contentious efforts to promote the development of intelligent transport systems, which involves the application of sensing, analysis, and control and communications technologies to surface transport in order to improve safety, mobility and efficiency.
