The Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Conference was held in Jinan, capital of Shandong province, on June 22, honoring the winners of the 2021 Shandong Province Science and Technology Awards.

A total of 33 scientific achievements developed by Yantai enterprises were commended at the event, hitting a new record since the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, and ranked the city third in Shandong. These awards included four provincial natural science awards, and 29 awards for scientific and technological advancement.

The Bluewhale drilling rig developed by Yantai CIMC Raffles, a renowned Chinese semisubmersible platform manufacturer, won first prize at the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards. The Bluewhale drilling rig is equipped with advanced new technologies, and has reached an internationally advanced level.
