Shandong Zhonglu Oceanic (Yantai) Foods Co (Zhonglu Foods), a State-owned company based in Yantai, Shandong province, has become a leader in China's tuna industry after over 21 years of development, local media outlets reported.
Xu Zhichao, general manager of Zhonglu Foods, said the company aims to provide high-quality tuna to more Chinese people.
Relying on its one-stop industrial chain covering aquatic product processing, refrigeration, and sales and trade, Zhonglu Foods has established the country's largest ultra-low-temperature tuna storage center, processing center, and trading center, ranking first nationwide in terms of tuna storage volume, processing volume, and transaction volume.
Zhonglu Foods has the country's only China Tuna Trading Center where nearly 30 percent of the country's fresh tuna and over 70 percent of Shandong's fresh tuna are traded. Since the establishment of the center in 2009, about 250,000 metric tons of tuna have been traded there.
According to Xu, the company's current daily production capacity is 60 tons, ranking at the forefront of the industry.
Last year, Zhonglu Foods sold 1,500 tons of tuna products in China, and its tuna products processing volume hit 14,000 tons. Both figures ranked among the top in China.
Zhonglu Foods also exports tuna products to more than 30 countries. Over 60 percent of them are exported to Japan and South Korea. The total export volume accounted for 82 percent of the company's total sales in 2021.
