The Muping Fishing Port Economic Zone in Yantai, Shandong province was included in the national pilot fishing port economic zone supported by central financial subsidies in 2021, according to a recent report released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The zone will receive a total of 1.23 billion yuan ($193.3 million) in investment, among which 200 million yuan is expected to be invested by the central government. The project aims to develop into an intelligent and green fishing port focusing on aquatic product processing, aquatic product trading, and fishing leisure culture.

The port's fishery output value is expected to exceed 8 billion yuan by 2025 and 10 billion yuan by 2030.
