Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, was named a China dynamic city at a conference held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province on Dec 3.
The evaluation was based on 18 indicators, including population, industry, environment, and culture. Twelve cities won the title, with the others being Guangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing, Chengdu, Changsha, Fuzhou, Yangzhou, Changzhou, Quanzhou, Zhuhai, and Weifang.
Thriving industries in Yantai are one of the main reasons the city was chosen. In recent years, Yantai has seen a large number of new market entities and innovation institutions, especially in the fields of industrial internet and key technology materials.
By the end of October of this year, the number of market entities in the city totaled 989,700, including more than 1,000 high-tech enterprises. The output value of high-tech industries in Yantai accounted for 54.8 percent of the total output of industries above designated size.
The city's improving environment is also one of the factors, as Yantai has been working to improve ecological governance. The city's forest coverage rate is 36.28 percent.
Haiyang, a county-level city in Yantai, started using heat generated by a nuclear power plant this winter, making it the first Chinese city to boast carbon-free heating.
In addition, Yantai is a famous historical and cultural city. It currently has 14 national intangible cultural heritage projects, 56 at the provincial level, and 129 at the municipal level.
Yantai paper cutting has been included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
