Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, recently donated 500,000 yuan ($72,000) to Wushan, a poverty-stricken county in Midwest China's Chongqing municipality, local media reported on August 5.
The donation was made by the Yantai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs and Yantai Charity Federation to the civil affairs bureau of Wushan.
Sui Zilin, director of the Yantai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, said at the ceremony that since 2017 the bureau has raised 1.51 million yuan to help Wushan improve its teaching environment and drinking water quality and help local poverty-stricken students finish schooling.
In addition, the Yantai Charity Federation has also been encouraging Yantai companies to make donations to Wushan. In 2019, the federation received a donation of 3.4 million yuan and established a special fund to help lift Wushan out of poverty.
The federation has collected 500,000 yuan in donations this year, which will be used to further alleviate poverty in Wushan.
Meanwhile, small and medium-sized companies in Yantai have also made their contributions by promoting Wushan-grown agricultural products.
