Yantai Penglai International Airport is located in Chaoshui town, Penglai city, 43 kilometers away from downtown Yantai.

The airport started construction in December 2009 and completed its first trial flight in November 2014. It opened to the public on May 28, 2015.

According to official statistics, the airport has a domestic and international terminal area of 90,000 square meters and a runway measuring 3,400 meters. It has 39 aircraft stations and is capable of accommodating the Boeing 747 and other large aircrafts.

The airport's passenger throughput exceeded 10 million for the first time in 2019, joining the ranks of major world airports.

The airport introduced its first direct flight to Tokyo on Jan 2, 2020. It is the city's fifth flight to Japan, after Osaka, Nagoya, Shizuoka, and Fukuoka.
