Yantai sees tourism boom on New Year's Day

The coastal city of Yantai saw a tourism boom on Jan 1 due to New Year's Day celebrations.
The city received a total of 313,000 tourists who spent 310 million yuan ($44.28 milion), while 12 key scenic spots monitored by the local government had nearly 67,000 tourists, generating revenue of 7.38 million yuan.
The city's cultural and tourism bureau launched three major celebratory activities – the dumpling culture festival, live streaming activity and online hot spring festival.
A dumpling-making competition, a dumpling proverb collection activity and themed painting activities were launched at the first dumpling culture festival. The hot spring festival offered huge discounts for visitors to enjoy the heartwarming winter holiday.
A total of 116 concerts, exhibitions, gourmet festivals and worship activities were held.
