Yantai, a manufacturing hub in Shandong province, has been working to boost intelligent manufacturing and industrial upgrading in recent years.

From Oct 10 to 11, a group of foreign journalists from mainstream media agencies in the United States, Britain, Germany and Japan visited some of the city's leading manufacturing companies.

The  innovations and achievements the city has made in manufacturing amused the foreign guests.

The automobile industry is an important pillar of the city's manufacturing sector. In the workshop of Shanghai GM Dongyue Automobile Company, the visitors were in shock and awe to find that almost the entire workshop had been automated.

The entire production process is completed using an unmanned intelligent transportation system and intelligent robots.

The city's marine equipment manufacturing was another highlight. Blue Whale 1, the ultra-deep-water semisubmersible drilling rig built by Yantai CIMC Raffles, was used in China's first test exploration for gas hydrate.

Foreign reporters showed strong interests in the group's work in environmental protection. Sun Kai, a department director of CIMC Raffles, said that the group has made strenuous efforts to protect the environment, even making the entire thermal power system recyclable.

The visitors also had the chance to visit some of the city's landmarks at night, including a light tower with over 100 years of history and an enchanting light show.
