Nearly 6.7 million tourists visited eastern China's Yantai during the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, up 12.3 percent year on year, local authorities said.
The influx of visitors led to the city's tourism industry generating revenue of 80.6 million yuan ($11.7 million), up 13.8 percent from last year's holiday.
During the holiday, the city also saw an increasing number of "red tourism" activities, namely visits to historical sites with a revolutionary legacy, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Themed painting exhibitions at Yantai Museum, the musical drama Changdao Changdao, and a large-scaled gala in celebration of National Day drew crowds of visitors during the holiday.
Cultural tourism proved to be more popular among tourists. More than 300 cultural tourism activities offered travelers the chance to enjoy local culture.
The city attracted many with its unique wine tourism. More than 10 wine themed scenic spots such as Changyu Wine Culture Museum and Chateau Junding held grape picking festivals, chateau vacation activities and DIY wine making activities.
