The much-anticipated national opera Yimeng Mountain, made its debut at the Yantai Grand Theatre on Sept 15-16.
More than 2,000 locals watched the performance and many in the audiences were moved to tears due to Shandong province's close connection to the story.
Based on true events that took place in Shandong's Yimeng Mountains during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), the opera tells how the local villagers supported Communist troops by making shoes and clothes for them and taking care of their children.
