Yantai, East China's Shandong province launched a city-wide survey on the reading habits and trends of its residents on Oct 14, to assess reading culture in the city.
The campaign, which ends on Nov 28, was commissioned by Yantai Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Press and Publication. The Bureau intends to use the findings to promote the implementation of a mass reading strategy.
Wang Pingyun, an official of the bureau, said about 100 coordinators will visit 1,600 families in 15 counties and districts of Yantai to conduct the survey.
Questionnaires used in the survey are designed based on respondent's age and education background, according to Wang. For instance, the questions vary slightly for different age groups such as 0-8 years old, 9-13 years old, 14-17 years old and those above 18.
Based on the survey results, the city's reading index, which will reflect residents' reading frequency and reading trend, will be released on Dec 30.
