Firecrackers pealed at the ground breaking ceremony for the Qixia general aviation airport on May 7 in Yangchu town of Qixia, a county-level city of Yantai, Shandong province.
Financed by the Qingdao-based hi-tech company Zhongke Kuntai with a total investment of 100 million yuan ($14.48 million), the airport is located in the northeastern quarter of Yangjiaquan village of Yangchu town and has a planning area of 260 mu (17.42 hectares).
When completed, the airport will provide related services for small fixed-wing aircraft take offs and landings, conduct multi-purpose flight missions such as pesticide spraying, forest fire prevention, medical assistance and highway patrolling, and stage business activities concerning aircrafts.
The airport is scheduled to be completed in October this year.
