The first locust flower festival opened at the Zhuque Mountain scenic spot in the Laishan district of Yantai, Shandong province, on May 16. The festival also marked the beginning of Yantai's celebrations for the national tourism day.

Thousands of visitors gathered at the scenic spot to appreciate locust tree flowers and taste locust honey.

The festival will run until May 25 and will host activities such as steamed bun making, folk performances, a photography exhibition and a handcraft show.

Zhuque Mountain scenic spot covers an area of over 7,000 mu (466.67 hectares) and has a forest coverage of over 90 percent. The mountain boasts about 3,000 mu locust trees, the flowers of which bloom in May.
