Shandong has made remarkable strides in preserving and promoting its rich intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in recent years. By integrating ICH into rural vitalization strategies, the province has not only safeguarded its cultural legacy but also empowered local communities and boosted rural economies.

One notable initiative is the creation of immersive ICH experiences. Jiangzhuang town in Gaomi has developed themed routes that blend traditional craftsmanship demonstrations with scenic landscapes, offering visitors a hands-on appreciation of ICH. Similarly, Weishan county in Jining has capitalized on its unique lake resources to stage cultural performances infused with ICH elements, attracting tourists and promoting local heritage.

Shandong has also expanded the applications of ICH beyond traditional domains. In Liaocheng, the Dong'e Ejiao City has leveraged its ICH expertise in ejiao, or donkey-hide gelatin, to create innovative products like milk tea and establish traditional Chinese medicine health tourism programs. Meanwhile, Boxing county in Binzhou has revitalized its coarse cloth weaving tradition by designing modern apparel and accessories that cater to contemporary tastes, while utilizing e-commerce platforms to reach a wider audience.

To ensure the sustainability of ICH practices, Shandong has implemented a multi-pronged approach. Linqu county in Weifang has established a three-tiered ICH linkage system, encompassing designated gathering areas, research bases, and cultural streets, fostering a collaborative environment for ICH protection and utilization. Feicheng in Tai'an has prioritized talent cultivation, establishing a comprehensive training system that encompasses mentorship, higher education, and school-based programs, nurturing a new generation of ICH practitioners.

Shandong's efforts to integrate ICH into rural vitalization serve as a compelling model for cultural preservation and sustainable development. By embracing its heritage and empowering local communities, Shandong has demonstrated the transformative power of ICH in fostering economic growth and cultural vibrancy.
