Juye county home to flourishing peony art industry

Juye county in Heze, East China's Shandong province, is the birthplace of 80 percent of the country's peony gongbi paintings (meticulous paintings). A decade ago, there were just over 6,000 people engaged in the painting industry in Juye county - now, the number has surpassed 20,000.

Juye county is home to 66 national-level calligraphers and painters, 154 provincial-level calligraphers and painters, one county-level calligraphy and painting training base, eight painting towns, 50 painting villages, and over 160 calligraphy and painting training institutions.

More than 20,000 people are engaged in the calligraphy and painting industry. Over 1,000 sales outlets have been established nationwide, with an annual output of over 1.2 million paintings. The paintings are sold to 40 countries and regions, with an annual output value of over 2 billion yuan ($276 million).
