Shandong promotes innovative development of traditional culture

Shandong province in East China is making efforts to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and to transform the cultural resources advantages of the province into a driving force for high-quality development, said Bai Yugang, head of the Publicity Department of Shandong.

"Taking into account the situation in Shandong, we are focused on making outstanding traditional culture a vital source for the thriving cultural industry, to contribute to the high-quality development of the economy and society, so as to continuously enhance the well-being and sense of happiness of our people," Bai said in an interview with local media.

Shandong is aiming to promote the high-quality integrated development of culture and tourism, as well as construct a cultural experience line along the Jiaozhou-Jinan Railway and four major cultural experience corridors along the Yellow River, Grand Canal, Qi Great Wall, and the Yellow Sea-Bohai Sea, he said.

Bai said that Shandong is striving to create a model for rural cultural revitalization that would effectively contribute to rural revitalization and increase of the incomes of farmers.

He emphasized that Shandong is actively implementing the "Shandong Cultural Heritage" project, formulating measures to promote the work of ancient Chinese classics in the new era, and publishing a collection of 1,816 volumes of Confucian classics for the first time in China. A massive literature "Qilu Library," consisting of over 6,000 kinds and 1.3 billion characters, will also be launched. Meanwhile, Shandong has been actively promoting the protection and utilization of cultural relics, he added.

"We need to diligently and passionately narrate the stories of Chinese civilization and make the stories of the Chinese culture well heard and understood globally," he said, adding that Shandong is becoming an important window for the world to understand the Chinese civilization and a significant carrier for global dialogue on civilizations.
