It only takes visitors 10 minutes by boat from Long Island Port to Seal Reef, where a large number of wild seals live. Around November every year, the seals depart from the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea in Russia, pass through the Sea of Japan and the North Yellow Sea to the Bohai Sea off China and arrive at Long Island in March. The seals then stay there and breed. There are hundreds of seals at most. These seals are endemic species in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, as well as being a national second-class protected species in China. The Shandong government also established a nature reserve in 2001 to protect them.
