The alliance was set up by the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engine and 20 influential companies and institutes in the engine industry, including the China Society of Automotive Engineers, the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, the China Classification Society, Weichai Group and the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute.

The alliance will facilitate engine power technology development and contribute to the country's efforts to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

"The alliance will promote industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and advance the carbon neutral technology development and demonstration projects in the engine industry, as well as boost the formulation of standards and specifications, and research on commonalities and key technologies," said Li Shusheng, vice president and secretary general of Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engine.
