Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, was ranked the most attractive city in the province for talent in 2020.

Jinan's talent demand in 2020 grew by 10.24 percent year-on-year, higher than the other 15 cities in Shandong province. This is largely due to the new batch of key projects worth 335 billion yuan ($51.25 billion) in investment.

The city's talent attraction indicator was also ranked first in Shandong, according to the statistics from a job searching website in Jinan.

Jinan has been accelerating its shift from old growth drivers to new ones. The Jinan Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone has attracted 22,000 registered enterprises which provide a platform for talent development.

Jinan has also released a series of policies to attract more talent. Doctoral and postgraduate students now stand to receive a subsidy of 150,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan respectively when purchasing homes in the city.

Local authorities will provide 1,000 internship positions every year. Those who take part in short-term training and stay in Jinan during the period of employment selection will be given a training subsidy of up to 3,000 yuan. Graduates from the top 200 overseas universities in the world will be given a subsidy of up to 300,000 yuan.

The local government will also increase financial support for innovation and entrepreneurship. Funding of up to 500,000 yuan will be given to startups created by outstanding overseas students.
