Shandong advances rural vitalization

Shandong province in East China has been making efforts to push forward rural vitalization and accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas in recent years, according to local authorities. 

The province has implemented a strategic plan for rural revitalization in accordance with the central government's guidelines. It has also launched a slew of measures and policies to promote the modernization of agriculture and the countryside, and further advance reforms in rural areas.

Supportive policies have been released to develop new types of agricultural businesses, such as family farms and farmers' cooperatives in Shandong, to encourage the development of specialized cooperatives suited to local conditions across the province.

The province has launched a batch of pilot village construction projects and modern agricultural parks to play leading roles in boosting modernization of agriculture and the countryside.

By the end of 2020, Shandong had built two State-level agricultural industrial clusters with advantages and features, eight modern agricultural industrial parks, 17 areas with advantages for featured agricultural products, two pilot zones for green development, 59 towns with strong agricultural industries, and 87,000 family farms and 236,000 specialized farmers' cooperatives, according to official statistics.

The total output of Shandong's farming, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishing industries exceeded 1 trillion yuan (about $154.8 billion) for the first time in 2020, while the total value of Shandong's agricultural output was 1.02 trillion yuan, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
