The Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism said on Jan 18 that the province's tourist figures and tourism revenue for 2020 is likely to hit 540 million and 565 billion yuan ($87.41 billion) respectively.

According to local officials, the province has launched a series of measures and activities to boost tourism recovery and growth in the post-pandemic era.

The fourth Shandong Culture and Tourism Consumption Season, which started in April 2020, distributed consumption coupons worth about 150 million yuan and helped drive consumption worth 984 million yuan.

To promote its cultural and tourism resources, the province staged 8,793 themed activities that drew more than 250 million participants.

In addition, Jinan and Qingdao in Shandong were included in the first batch of national culture and tourism consumption demonstration cities.

Shandong has also spared no effort to follow the "dual circulation" development pattern, which is centered on the domestic economy ("internal circulation") and aims to integrate the domestic economy with the global economy ("external circulation").

The province has launched a slew of measures to improve its services and marketing to attract more domestic tourists, seizing the opportunities offered by China's economic recovery.

Two scenic spots in Shandong were newly listed as national 5A tourist attractions, while five counties and districts were included in the second batch of national all-for-one tourism demonstration zones.
