Shandong develops animal husbandry

The province of Shandong has released guidelines to promote the high-quality development of animal husbandry over the next ten years.

By 2025, 15 million tons of meat, eggs, and milk are expected to be produced in the province, the proportion of large-scale farming is expected to reach 88 percent, and the comprehensive utilization rate of feces and sewage is expected to reach 85 percent, according to guidelines released by the Shandong Provincial People's Government.

Significant improvements are also expected to be made in overall production capacity, animal disease prevention and control capacity, overall competitiveness, and the modernization of animal husbandry, said Shandong officials.

By 2030, the province is expected to lead the country in the modernization of animal husbandry.

Shandong will also accelerate the development of the livestock and poultry breeding industry, support the upgrading of national and provincial breeding bases and gene banks, and establish centers for the protection and utilization of livestock and poultry germplasm resources.

In addition, it will launch measures to encourage the development of large-scale animal husbandry and promote the utilization of standardized and modern technologies.

It will also build slaughtering quality-standard centers, optimize the layout of slaughtering enterprises, and promote standardization.

Lastly, it will further promote green development and the recycling of livestock and poultry waste and deepen the agricultural and animal husbandry cycle.
