Shandong strengthens infrastructure construction

Shandong's infrastructure construction has entered a period of overall acceleration this year, local media reported.

The province has been making consistent efforts to accelerate infrastructure connectivity and provide strong support for its high-quality development.

The construction of infrastructure plays a major role in the overall economic and social development of Shandong, according to local authorities.

From January to November of this year, the province's comprehensive transportation infrastructure continued to make strong progress, receiving a total of 225.9 billion yuan ($34.59 billion) in investment and fulfilling 97.5 percent of its annual target.

A total of 15 projects involving 1,280 km of new and expanded expressways have opened to traffic in Shandong this year, meaning the province has a total of 7,473 kilometers of expressway currently open to traffic.

In addition, the Weifang-Laixi High-speed Railway began operating on Nov 26, meaning Shandong now has 2,110 kilometers of railway open to the public, ranking third in China.

Shandong has also made steady advancements in the construction of internet infrastructure, especially mobile and application infrastructure. More than 30,000 5G base stations have opened in the province, and the number will hit 50,000 by the end of the year. It also has 101 new infrastructure projects being planned, with a total investment of 48.3 billion yuan.
