The much-anticipated Rizhao Ocean Park opened to the public on July 21 in Rizhao, Shandong province, commencing a three-month-long ocean carnival to attract more tourists during the summertime.

Covering an area of 161.7 mu (approximately 10.78 hectares), the ocean park is an innovative marine tourism complex with a total investment of 700 million yuan ($103 million), consisting of an aquarium, a flower and bird garden and multitude of recreation facilities.

More than 20 exhibitions and 10 large-scale performances are offered at the park to entertain visitors of all ages. The fascinating underwater performances, pleasant climate, various sea creatures in the aquarium and convenient transportation make it a must-visit.

Located in Rizhao's core area of seaside tourism, the park borders the city's most iconic littoral attraction -- Wanpingkou Scenic Area to the east, Dongyi town, a popular tourist destination to the west, and Shanhaitian Tourism Resort to the north.
