A national vegetable standards center is to be built in Shouguang, Shandong province, to provide national standards for China's vegetable products.

Approved by the Minister of Agriculture and the Yantai government, the center will make efforts to build a comprehensive quality assessment system for vegetable products.

Its function will be to make, release and promote national standards for the vegetable industry and to standardize national vegetable production in terms of safety, quality, and technique which it is hoped will help to improve the quality of agricultural products across China.

Shouguang is well-known for its high-quality vegetable products and are sold not just across China but to Japan, the United States and other countries.

Shouguang has become a pioneer in rural revitalization thanks to its innovation in greenhouse technology, which has ended the scarcity of fresh vegetables in Northern China in the winter. According to Zhu Lanxi, the Party secretary of Shouzuang, the vegetable industry in the city is focused on building a competitive market with the emphasis on quality for consumers.

It is hoped that Shouguang will take this opportunity to deepen cooperation with academic institutes and develop more high-end technologies which can be utilized in the development of intelligent agriculture.
