Yantai Huang-Bohai New Area is moving away from just shipping products overseas to exports of technology and services. This transformation is reshaping how local companies are going global.
At Yantai Eddie Precision Machinery Co Ltd, industrial robots operate with seamless precision in smart workshops. In 2025, overseas revenue hit 498 million yuan ($68.2 million), accounting for 15.91 percent of its total business. Products now reach over 90 countries and regions.
The company has established a global network anchored in Yantai, encompassing a plant in Thailand, the full acquisition of Germany's Fluitronics GmbH, sales offices in the United States, Russia, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, and a joint venture with Kawasaki. Its five-year target is to derive 50 percent of sales from overseas markets.
Eddie Precision exemplifies the broader momentum across the New Area. Last year, service trade reached $1.27 billion, a 28 percent year-on-year increase. This is projected to grow to $1.8 billion in 2026 — representing a 67 percent surge. This resilience is driven largely by the region's pivot toward knowledge-intensive trade.
RemeGen offers another success story. Its RC148 injection for overseas trials was recently shipped to the United States. Since 2021, the company has sealed four out-licensing deals worth over $12.6 billion (in total).
Cross-border e-commerce is also expanding rapidly. The area runs 14 overseas warehouses across 11 cities, covering about 110,000 square meters, with total investment exceeding 500 million yuan. More than 300 e-commerce companies have joined its integrated trade platforms to date.
With strong infrastructure and a growing global reach, the area's trade ecosystem is poised for even greater expansion.
