Yantai in eastern China's Shandong province will officially open the Kongtong resort on July 28. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese text Shanhaijing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas) and the legend of the Eight Immortals of Taoist mythology, the resort is China's first offshore immersive travel destination themed around traditional mythology.

According to officials, the resort combines traditional Chinese mythology with Yantai's coastal scenery to create a full-day immersive experience. Visitors can enjoy interactive performances, themed attractions, waterfront leisure, and cultural activities inspired by ancient legends.

More than 300 interactive performances will be staged across the resort, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Chinese mythology, including a large-scale indoor production inspired by the Eight Immortals and a nightly light-and-water show.

On the island, two main commercial streets, each inspired by famous Chinese folktales, will host over 40 shops featuring local cuisine, cultural products, and traditional crafts.

To improve accessibility, the main pier will come into operation on July 28, with an average ferry ride of 20 to 30 minutes to the island. The area offers more than 2,300 parking spaces, and tickets are available through major online platforms and at on-site service counters.

The resort also includes three hotels with 345 rooms in total, capable of accommodating up to 700 guests. The hotel rooms feature mythological-style seaweed-roof architecture and offer guests easy access to the island's natural scenery and wildlife.

Officials said the project is expected to enhance Yantai's appeal as an international coastal destination.
