The 2026 Spring Festival travel rush concluded on March 13, with Yantai's public transportation managing 2.89 million passenger trips, a 3.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.
To address the increased demand during the 40-day peak season, Yantai mobilized 41 ro-pax vessels, added seven train pairs, increased 50 flight routes, and deployed over 400 coaches, 3,300 buses, and 5,400 taxis.
Seamless intermodal connections were ensured through coordinated efforts between taxis, buses, and railway stations, with additional night bus services. "Return-to-work charters" and "student shuttles" facilitated over 40,000 trips, for a smooth "airport-to-campus" and "home-to-factory" connections.
With a rise in self-driving travel, expressway traffic exceeded 9.3 million vehicles, a 16.2 percent increase. All service areas now feature 110 charging stations with 154 charging outlets, managed by dedicated staff to prevent queues.
Despite snow and strong winds, accurate forecasts enabled phased dispatching of maritime services in Bohai Bay, while quick snow clearance kept roads accessible.
Around 240 volunteers assisted at airports, stations, and ports. Yantai Airport set up dedicated counters for seniors and families. Yantai Port served tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) to travelers during Lantern Festival. Ferry operators helped recover over 100 lost items and offered free dumplings on Chinese New Year's Eve.
These efforts ensured safe, smooth, and accommodating travel during the world's largest annual migration.
