Qingdao's yacht industry kicks off year with surge in demand

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2026-01-07

Qingdao's yacht and sailing sector had a strong start to the new year. Between Jan 1 and 3, revenue from yacht and sailing products increased nearly tenfold, signaling a strong new year start.

This outstanding performance underscores the high market demand for quality marine tourism experiences. It also reflects the success of the city's systematic reforms and innovative operations, which have moved its yacht and sailing offerings from a niche, high-end market to a more accessible, premium experience for a wider audience.

This leap in performance is supported by the institutional strengths of the "Qingdao model for integrated marine tourism operations". As a result, the influence of the "see Qingdao from the sea" brand continues to grow, with service quality and operational efficiency improving together.

This momentum builds on a strong 2025, when Qingdao's maritime tourism attracted about 4.2 million visitors, a 61.09 percent year-on-year increase, solidifying its position among the nation's top three destinations. By leveraging the scale and brand power of the unified platform, the yacht sector has expanded from a seasonal niche activity to a year-round, mass-market attraction.
