(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2025-12-30

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–25), Qingdao made significant progress in advancing rural vitalization, aiming to become a pioneering model for Shandong province.

In 2024, the city's total grain output reached 3.214 million metric tons, with the production of meat, eggs, and milk exceeding 1.18 million tons and aquatic product output totaling 1.07 million tons, all surpassing planned targets.

Through the establishment of a green grain yield increase system, Qingdao developed and upgraded over 4.578 million mu (305,106.66 hectares) of high-standard farmland. The total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries rose from 80.71 billion yuan ($11.56 billion) to 97.38 billion yuan from 2021 to 2025, with the primary industry's added value reaching 50 billion yuan for the first time.

The city's modern facility agriculture and marine ranching leads the nation. The Kaisheng Haofeng smart greenhouse model has been replicated in 74 projects across China, and 21 national-level marine ranches have been established. The Guoxin series aquaculture vessels generated an output value exceeding 300 million yuan.

Qingdao has developed a modern agriculture industry value chain, featuring two 100-billion-yuan, eight 10-billion-yuan, and fifteen 1-billion-yuan level sectors. It is home to 23 of China's top 500 agricultural enterprises, with the annual output value of agricultural product processing exceeding 240 billion yuan.

Technological innovation has provided robust support. Initiatives to strengthen the seed industry and digital agriculture have led to the certification of 591 new crop varieties. Nine local institutions were included in the national seed industry matrix, the most among sub-provincial cities.
