Lingshan Island emerges as model for eco-cultural tourism in Shandong
Lingshan Island in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) is Qingdao's only entry on Shandong's latest ecotourism case list, recognized for its integrated eco-cultural model.
In 2024, Lingshan Island was designated a national 3A-level tourist attraction, marking it as the city's first island-type tourist spot. This achievement has catapulted it to visitors' must-see lists.
The island offers a varied and dynamic tourism experience, with eco-tours, fishing culture, wellness retreats, research trips, and cultural activities. Surrounded by fertile seas and home to lush vegetation and unique geological formations, it serves as a natural treasure trove of ecological resources.
By deeply exploring its natural and cultural heritage, Lingshan Island has developed 12 signature scenic spots and three distinctive villages under the "one village, one product" initiative. It has also nurtured 53 characteristic homestays, forming a comprehensive tourism service ecosystem that enables visitors to stay on Lingshan Island and enjoy the mountains and sea.
Additionally, innovative tour routes have been launched by the local government, including the Tangdao Bay cruise tour and one- or two-day island tours. Since their launch in August, these routes have attracted 55,000 visitors, generating over 5 million yuan ($703,765) in revenue — representing a sustainable development path where environmental preservation and economic growth go hand in hand.
