Gorgeous buildings in Shinan
As a district with a profound history, Shinan is home to a great number of gorgeous buildings where classic and modern cultures overlap. What listed below are a few worth a visit.
The Taipingjiao No 18 Art Center is located on No 18 Taipingjiao Road and was built in 1930. It is located at a French-style garden villa that is made out of vintage brick and wood and has a mansard roof and a white wooden balcony. The center now holds concerts regularly and serves as a gathering place for artists, making it a great place for visitors to search for peace and embrace art.

Meet Van Gogh is a restaurant in the district that serves coffee and Western food. The architecture of the restaurant has a history of more than a century and has reproductions of Van Gogh's paintings hanging on its walls. The restaurant also has a strong Dutch feel attached to it.

The former residence of the British Consul General was built in 1940 and is a national heritage building. Thanks to its unique style, two-story brick wood structure and steep roof, a lot of films and TV series are shot here, including Erma, a TV drama adapted from the famous novel written by Lao She.

The former Norwegian and Finnish consulate was erected in 1934. Historical relics collected from Shanghai History Museum are on display throughout the house and old pictures of Qingdao hang on the wall, enabling visitors to relish in bygone eras.
