The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province will ramp up efforts to promote the development of cultural and tourism development this year.

Focusing on the construction of "a vibrant ocean city, a wonderful and pleasant city", the Qingdao municipal bureau of culture and tourism will improve tourism facilities and services, create an art city, promote the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism industry and other key projects, said Pan Feng, director of Qingdao municipal bureau of culture and tourism.

The city will formulate a three-year action plan for the vitalization of the cultural industry, implement detailed rules for supporting the high-quality development of the cultural industry and film and television industries, and implement special policies for bailing out cultural and tourism enterprises as they are heavily affected by the latest wave of COVID-19 outbreaks in China.

Efforts will be made to promote the establishment of a national cultural and tourism integration development demonstration zone, a national cultural and financial cooperation demonstration zone, and national and provincial-level cultural industry demonstration zones.

The city will promote the transformation and upgrading of the local cultural industry, develop new forms of business such as digital creativity and immersive experiences, and create a number of leading digital enterprises.

The city has also introduced plans to boost its nighttime economy, which refers to business activities between 6 pm and 6 am in the service sector. It will set up a bunch of nighttime landmarks, business districts and living areas throughout the city, which are expected to be featured as part of a world-renowned nighttime consumer brand.

As a renowned coastal tourism resort, Qingdao will continue to facilitate local marine resources, improve the marine ecological environment, and launch related tourism products such as fishing, sports, island experiences and popular science.
