A special wedding was recently held at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center in Shinan district on July 5.
It was the first wedding of its kind after the COVID-19 pandemic subsided in China and was meant to honor people who fought bravely against the novel coronavirus and call on young people to practice core socialist values in their daily life.
The bride, Jia Xiaohui, runs a local service center for the disabled and has been caring for these people for many years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led a volunteer team to provide support for the disabled.
Jia thanked her family for their strong support for her work and said she would continue volunteering in the future.
Some disabled people who once received help from Jia were also invited to the wedding, which featured volunteer interpreters who used sign language to communicate with deaf people.
Officers at Shinan district's bureau of civil affairs issued the marriage certificate to the couple. Yang Naichen, former curator of the Qingdao Folk Custom Museum, sent the couple a calligraphy piece he made and encouraged them to observe tradition.
