IoT solutions shine at Haier biomedical factory
The IoT (internet of things) factory of Haier Biomedical is one of Haier's efforts to boost smart manufacturing via the industrial internet.
The factory is located at the Haier Biomedical Industrial Park in the Qingdao National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and covers an area of 25,000 square meters. It has an annual capacity of 200,000 biomedical refrigerators.

"The time required for a machine to be preinstalled and taken offline is 30 percent less than in a normal factory," said Duan Jianlei, a senior manager of Haier.
According to Duan, Haier Biomedical is the world's only complete cold chain provider and offers storage for biological sample banks, blood safety, vaccine safety, medical supplies, and reagent safety.
The IoT factory now has four production lines for low temperature storage equipment for biomedical samples and employs 500 people, around 20 percent less than a traditional factory, said Duan.
Industrial internet allows Duan access to a wealth of information about consumers, suppliers, and the factory. The information is collected and analyzed by a network of combined, advanced machines with internet-connected sensors.

"Haier has established an IoT security management and information sharing platform to monitor the entire production process of its biomedical equipment," said Duan.
For example, Haier's IoT Intelligent Blood Safety Management system provides a unified and secure platform for the entire city's blood supply.

IoT is used in the management system to share blood information with the city's central blood bank and centralizes information about blood usage at each of the hospitals through the establishment of a unified blood management platform.
The city's blood database also benefits from system surveillance of blood collection and clinical use.
The IoT Intelligent Blood Safety Management system guarantees that all blood across the city's health network is high-quality and safe.
