The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province has been ramping up efforts to transform itself into an international fashion destination.

To achieve this goal, the city will take cues from Chinese and overseas fashion metropolises like New York, Milan, London, Paris, Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

A meeting was recently held to discuss this year's key fashion projects.

The city currently has 99 key cultural and tourism projects with total investment exceeding 350 billion yuan ($49.27 billion). Local culture and tourism authorities have adopted digitalization to boost project matchmaking as well as promote local tourism and culture resources amid the pandemic.

The Qingdao municipal bureau of sport is promoting the headquarters project of Taishan Group, a well-known sports brand, with several rounds of negotiations taking place.

Qingdao is also cultivating its electronic sports industry. On March 31, the Qingdao municipal bureau of sport, the Qingdao Oceantec Valley and well-known e-sports company Thunderobot signed an agreement to carry out all-round and in-depth cooperation in e-sports training, competitions and research. The various parties will also work together to build a smart e-sports industry cluster in Qingdao Oceantec Valley in five to eight years.
