Museum of Former German Governor's House in Qingdao reopens

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2020-05-11

The Museum of the Former German Governor's House in Qingdao reopened on May 10, after the easing of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China.

The museum, with a history of over 100 years, was designed by a German architect and constructed in 1905. In 1996, the State Council listed it as a key heritage site under State protection. It was opened to the public in 1999 as a museum for relics of historical buildings.

In addition to continual exhibitions, the museum has launched six new exhibitions featuring Mao Zedong and his experiences in Qingdao, the Maritime Silk Road, restoration of the house's previous decorations, architecture and culture, moon-shaped fans, and cultural relics related to the Chinese zodiac.

A variety of beautiful trees and flowers, such as plane trees, oaks, maples, Chinese redbuds, sweet-scented osmanthus and magnolia blossoms, add color to the courtyard.
