Pingdu approved to build general aviation airport

Pingdu, a county-level city in Qingdao, Shandong province, has been approved to build a general aviation airport by the Shandong Development and Reform Commission.

Local authorities said that the airport will promote the construction of Shandong's general airport network and modern comprehensive transportation system, boost the development of Qingdao's general aviation industry, and improve the overall level of disaster prevention, mitigation and emergency rescue in Pingdu.

The airport will receive a total investment of 565.45 million yuan ($81.57 million). Covering an area of 43.83 hectares, it will include an 800-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, a 40,000-square-meter apron and a 13,000-square-meter terminal, according to A1 general airport of civil aviation standards.

Other facilities such as an exhibition hall covering 5,000 square meters, a hangar covering 7,000 square meters, and other supporting facilities covering about 160,000 square meters will also be built.
