AI helps Linyi students bring traditional dough sculpture into digital era

An entrepreneurship team called "Yisu Fanghua" from Linyi City Vocational College is using AI modeling tools and 3D printing technology to transform dough sculpture, a national intangible cultural heritage, through digital innovation. Formed by university students, the team is exploring a new path for the preservation and development of traditional craftsmanship.

The team joined the Qidi OPC Startup Incubation Park in Luozhuang district in April 2026. With support from the park, including computing resources, workspace and entrepreneurship services, the team began exploring digital solutions for traditional dough sculpture. The project aims to address challenges facing traditional craftsmanship, including high skill requirements, difficulties in mass production and limited engagement among younger generations.

To protect traditional techniques, the team developed a digital asset platform based on Unreal Engine, where they recorded different techniques, artistic styles and classic designs. It also applied blockchain technology to strengthen copyright protection for intangible cultural heritage. By combining AI modeling, automated production and digital coloring technologies, the team shortened production time and improved production efficiency.

The team has also expanded the market potential of dough sculpture by developing cultural and creative products and cooperating with cultural institutions. Through online and offline channels, its products have attracted more consumers and increased interest in traditional culture.

By integrating intangible cultural heritage with digital technology and market development, the young entrepreneurs are helping transform traditional craftsmanship into a new cultural industry.
