Linyi markets gain from better business environment

A stronger business environment is reinvigorating Linyi's traditional markets, as sports events, tourism scenes and improved services help physical merchants turn traffic into sales.

At China International Food City, a Linyi regional table tennis and cultural tourism event brought residents and sports fans into the market through interactive games on June 27. Merchant Feng Xiantao said the activity increased foot traffic and boosted sales of snacks and drinks.

The market's broader appeal comes from its business-culture-tourism model, which adds brand streets, shopping experiences, check-in spots and leisure scenes. As more young visitors arrive, Feng has added zero-additive and sugar-free foods and is planning private-domain sales and cross-border e-commerce to Southeast Asia.

The same change is reshaping Huafeng International Garment City. Merchant He Guiwen said tourist service centers and better shopping experiences have brought more visitors, especially on weekends and holidays. Longtime vendor Wang Shengjun said his store traffic and sales have risen by 20 to 30 percent in recent times, and he is exploring ticket-stub promotions to draw more tourists from nearby scenic areas.

Younger merchants are also adapting. Xu Wei, who runs a women's clothing store, has created a nostalgic check-in corner and benefited from longer market hours.

Together, these changes show how better platforms, services and tourism-oriented upgrades are helping Linyi's physical markets find new customers.
